Pledge to defend libraries

It was only five years ago that Saskatchewan people from across the province pulled together to save our public libraries from government cuts. We knew then that libraries were cornerstones of our communities. And today they are just as important.

But our libraries are once again being threatened by violence in the workplace, automation, underfunding and government restructuring.

By signing this pledge, I demand that employers and governments at the provincial and municipal levels take action.

It is time to:

  • Reinvest in our libraries.
  • Challenge employer tactics, such as “staffless libraries,” which result in job loss and negative impacts on quality library services.
  • Invest in full-time, permanent, well-paid jobs to support the work of our libraries.
  • Take seriously and address violence and health & safety issues in the sector.
  • Recognize the work of library workers in times of crisis.

Help us pledge to defend our libraries by signing up below.
